ABOUT MAYOR KURPIS
Dr. Albert J. Kurpis

I believe that running for public office in Saddle River is both an honor and a privilege, and should not be
entered into lightly. Being the Mayor of any town is a daunting task, but my decision to run for a third
term was an easy one. I believe that I am the right person, with the right, extensive experience and
qualifications, the right temperament, at the right time, and so I believe this is the right thing for me to do.
I am a dentist who still practices dentistry in my office in Ridgewood, NJ. I graduated from Columbia
University College of Dental Medicine in 1974 and returned to academia as a researcher and Associate
Professor for the next decade. My research culminated in being awarded one of the first early United
States patents for the dental implant. I also established a dental practice in New York City, where I
practiced for twenty seven years. Within organized dentistry I became a member of many prestigious
organizations, the most notable being the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics where I rose to
full Fellow, and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, where I attained the highest membership
recognition as an Honored Fellow, as well as serving as the president of its Northeast Chapter. I am a
founding member of the American Academy of Oral and Systemic Health. Over my forty-nine year career
in dentistry, I’ve published numerous articles, wrote and published a book on cosmetic dentistry
(Amazing Smiles through Cosmetic Dentistry), lectured throughout the United States, Europe and the
Middle East, and made numerous appearances on radio and TV news shows.
After my children were grown, I became very active in town government, and it is from here that I draw
my experience in running a municipality. Prior to being Mayor for the past eight years, I served on the
Landmarks Commission, the Environmental Commission, the Planning Board, the Board of Health,
Public Safety Committee, and Finance Committee. I served as Fire Commissioner and that Department
has been completely revamped. I was the Police Liaison, as well as the unanimously elected Council
President. Through my work on the Finance Committee, I helped mold a fiscally responsible future for
our borough. It is my firm belief that in order to be qualified to be an effective Mayor, anyone
seeking this position must have several years of inside experience that only comes from direct,
sustained service to the township. To believe otherwise is to put this town at grave risk.
I am also very proud of the work I do to promote candidates locally and statewide. Through effective
fundraising activities and other support, I have helped to elect and keep in office numerous Assemblymen
and women, Congressmen, Senators, and county officials. While I hold absolutely no further political
aspirations for myself, we need honest and ethical people in office. And I will always work to advance
good values in our community; small government, low taxes, fiscal conservatism, safety and security for
all residents and an excellent education for our children.
In closing, I would like you to know that I am an extremely positive person, always believing that
common ground can be found. I have a proven record of reaching out and working with all sides. I am
open to change, fair-minded and trustworthy. I can assure you I will do the right and ethical thing, and
will work tirelessly for you. I truly love this town, and want to do what is best, to the best of my ability. I
believe strongly that I am the only candidate who is qualified to serve as Mayor. You can rest assured
that your town will be in good hands with me as your third term Mayor.
